For those that want to deliver presentations more effectively

Are you the same as the next man, Henry Ford thought not.

All Fords are exactly alike, but no two men are just alike. Every new life is a new thing under the sun; there has never been anything just like it before, never will be again. A young man ought to get that idea about himself; he should look for the single spark of individuality that makes him different from other folks, and develop that for all he is worth. Society and schools may try to iron it out of him; their tendency is to put it all in the same mold, but I say don't let that spark be lost; it is your only real claim to importance.

Henry Ford

If you think you can do a thing can or you think you can't do a thing, you're right.

Having attended a Micro Coaches session today with a group of great people who are all achieving great things in their respective areas and intending to keep on doing this across the East of England.

It reminded me of the quotes of Henry Ford. Very often the only thing that is stopping us achieve our goals and our dreams is ourselves. Whatever your view is on Henry Ford, he managed to achieve greatness through sheer determination and hard work. More importantly he totally believed in his ability to one day achieve his dreams.

It also gave me the opportunity to share my sons story of when his school suggested the write a story and produce a drawing of their "Future Life". He decided that he wanted at the age f seven to become an accountant and professional golfer.

Before you say he probably won't make it, I don't know. There is no pressure for him to achieve it especially since he decided that at age 7 and he is now aged 9. What I do know that it has given him a direction and a goal to reach for. He works hard at his maths because he believes that it will help him in the future, he has quizzed his uncle who is a chartered accountant and asked us to get him golf clubs for Xmas last. He now regularly has golf lessons to improve his game. prompting me to consider taking it up.

Whether he actually reaches his goal is of no consequence it will be the journey and the process that he will have gained. In fact he may surpass his goal and do something that better suits his personality later in life.

It is something that we all need to look at and try and establish. What are our plans for our future lives?

Launch of Activ People in the community

With 20 years of experience in developing businesses and in particular the creation of employment businesses means that we are developing the duplication concept of enabling organisations and individuals to generate income through the work they already do.

As many organisations have employment outputs to achieve this opportunity supports the achievement of those outcomes by proactively sourcing employment from targeted employers for job ready clients or providing work experience for those that aren't in some cases.

Employers are now very used to the need to use an employment agency for both permanent and contract recruitment. Managed correctly contract recruitment with support through caching and mentoring can lead to a permanent position as we found at the Turning Corners project developed for the Marsh Farm Community Development Trust. All community organisations and charities are doing is moving into this market as a social enterprise with the support of a back office support organisation.

The team at activ people have experience of setting up new location offices, careers guidance, project management, the further and higher education sector enabling them to give a comprehensive package of support all for a small monthly fee. For more information contact Richard at marketing@activ-people.co.uk for more information.

Do you need more money as a Charity, Voluntary organisation or Social Enterprise

Well if you are looking at ways to increase your revenue, to achieve your outputs or to be successful in bidding then Micro Coaches may be able to help. In fact I shall be one of many coaches that will soon be available through this new and exciting peer to peer support programme.

Unlocking the skills and expertise within small organisations with the aim of working towards sustainable communities. The aim of the Micro Coaches is to share the specific expertise, skills or knowledge they have about business with other small organisations, including social enterprises.

Why am I getting involved? Because I believe passionately in supporting the community and enabling organisations to generate additional surplus income, especially through creating enterprises that produce income for their social aims.

Think about it if you were able to get the general public or businesses to pay you for providing a service or product. Then taking that money and using it to support your target beneficiaries rather than always waiting months to work out if you have won the lottery of bid writing.

There is still a place for state funding, grants and lottery funding but using a mixture of funding options allows you to try and be more flexible in your service delivery. Well hopefully you will be asking for a Micro Coach in the East of England soon.

New Career supporting the community and changing lives in Luton

Who do you know that would be able to take on one of the toughest and high profile community roles in the UK? Well it is time to put your thinking caps on and help us find them to take the the reins of an opportunity of a life time.

This area in Luton has millions of pounds to invest in creating innovative projects that will produce a surplus/profit. What could you come up with to achieve the goal. All of the projects must produce a return on investment.

You have hundreds of organisations and businesses that are able to support you. But you must have the charisma to work with each of them and understand how to help them achieve their goals as well as you getting what you want.

There is a dedicated team who need leading rather than managing, who need motivating rather than mastering and who need recognition rather than a list of rules.

Its time to step up to the plate and be counted!

The Marsh farm Community Development trust needs you.

Building Communities Fund for Social Enterprises

The meeting that I talked about initially in my first post for activ people was to launch the Building Communities Fund which is to support the development of social enterprises in the eastern region. Photo: Michelle Rigby - CEO SEEE (left) , Andrew Robinson - Quirk Review (right)

It enables third sector organisations to develop a feasibility study on the viability of acquiring an asset that is currently held in private or public hands for the good of the local communities that they wish to serve.

But more importantly it enables those organisations the opportunity to utilise that asset to create a surplus or profit which will support their social aims. Whether that is to help with the care of individuals, education, business incubation. The list recipients is endless as well as the enterprises used to create the surplus.

The point is for those organisations to make a profit rather than having to rely always on Grant funding. For more information visit http://www.buildingcommunitiesfund.org/ or the SEEE website http://www.socialenterprise-east.org.uk/

welcome to activ people

This is the first post for activ people on activ-people.com and it has been an interesting day having attended a meeting this morning and truly launching activ people to the public. If the question is the start of the business the first time we have been involved in something like this before the answer is resounding no and later on yoou will eventually get the whole story.

I have been developing this business over the past 20 years with varying degrees of success, to the point that I have developed a better understanding of my own capabilities and where I fit into the world.

Which is where the story all starts. About 20 years ago I was made redundant from a rather good career in the electronics sector, a manufacturing industry that is much in decline in the UK. At which point I had to decide on a way forward.

In the meantime I took up a McJob, since my belief is that a job and almost any job is good for the soul. It set me off on a journey of discovery.

Having read a number of self help books and articles on sales and marketing I decided that this was the direction for me and the rest they say is history.
